Job 39:19Sefaria

God's care and oversight of the world become visible through the creation of animals specifically designed to serve human needs. Chief among these is the horse, a creature uniquely equipped for riding, carrying heavy loads, and, most notably, facing the harsh demands of war The exceptional courage of the warhorse and its striking lack of fear compared to other creatures are not the result of human training or random natural development. Instead, this bravery comes from the direct providence of God

When considering the intense presence of the horse, there are different ways to understand its overwhelming power in battle. The primary approach among commentators focuses on the sheer sound the animal produces. This view connects the horse's presence to concepts of thunder and deep fear, pointing to its fierce, threatening neigh. In the heat of combat, this powerful sound echoes like a crack of thunder or the loud shouts of military commanders Building on the impact of this sound, the horse's roar is also associated with pure terror and shock, evoking a sense of deep dread in those who face it [רש״י, אבן עזרא].

On the other hand, a different perspective shifts the focus from the horse's sound to its physical majesty and pride. In this view, the emphasis is placed on the animal's magnificent beauty [מלבי״ם]. It also highlights the horse's distinct, imposing posture, particularly the way it proudly raises its head and arches its neck like a drawn bow, a movement naturally designed to strike fear into anyone who stands before it [אלשיך].
