Proverbs 6:14Sefaria

A person characterized by deep inner corruption inevitably becomes a destructive force in their community. At the core of such an individual is a mind filled with twisted and distorted ideas [ביאור שטיינזלץ], driven by a desire to overturn reality from what it truly is [מצודת דוד]. This inner world is built entirely on lies [רלב״ג] and concepts that oppose truth and the proper order of life [עמנואל הרומי]. Such internal distortion often takes the form of profound hypocrisy, where a person presents a false face to the world, or it can manifest as a restless mind that constantly shifts from one malicious thought to another, never allowing a single positive idea to take root [אלשיך]. On a spiritual level, these twisted thoughts translate into heresy, directly opposing faith in God [מלבי״ם].

Operating from this corrupted mindset, the individual constantly schemes to cause harm [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This intense plotting is compared to a person plowing deep into the earth, illustrating how profoundly they dig into their own mind to devise ways to hurt others [עמנואל הרומי]. While their distorted beliefs might be directed upward against God, their active plotting is always aimed squarely at friends and fellow human beings [מלבי״ם].

The direct result of this relentless scheming is the active provocation of conflict [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The primary approach among commentators is that such a person spreads lies specifically to ignite arguments and fights between people. They will even instigate quarrels among complete strangers, interfering in matters where they have no personal stake [אלשיך]. Some note that this malicious interference is sometimes targeted at scholars, aiming to stir up conflict among them to cause confusion and disrupt their studies [אמרי דעת]. In contrast to this focus on social disruption, another perspective suggests that the conflict being provoked is actually between humanity and the Creator [רש״י]. By entirely casting off the authority of God, the individual is inevitably led down a path of committing all these various evils [מצודת דוד].

This destructive behavior stands in complete opposition to the natural harmony of creation. It contrasts sharply with creatures like the ant, which naturally seeks peace and refrains from taking what belongs to others [אלשיך]. Although a person who plots evil brings significant ruin to society [רלב״ג], their schemes are ultimately doomed to fail. In the end, they will face justice and receive appropriate punishment from God for all the harm they planned and executed [רלב״ג, אמרי דעת].
