A person who dedicates their life to conflict, gossip, and manipulation ultimately faces an absolute and devastating end. Those who sow discord and use deceit to harm others, even when there is no personal benefit, bring a disaster upon themselves that leaves no room for recovery. This ruin strikes without any prior warning, bringing deep sadness and misfortune with immediate speed. The primary approach among commentators is that the suddenness of this downfall means the individual is completely unaware of the approaching collapse. However, others draw a finer distinction, noting that the disaster is sudden both in the swiftness of its timing and in the sheer force of the blow itself [מלבי״ם].

The rapid and absolute nature of this punishment is a direct result of the troublemaker's actions. Because this person behaves wickedly toward both heaven and other people, the natural order of the world dictates that society will eventually rise up to destroy them; if not, they will face direct punishment from God [עמנואל הרומי]. Furthermore, because this individual actively hates peace, no defending angel in heaven will step forward to ask God for patience or mercy on their behalf. The disaster must strike suddenly so that the wrongdoer has no opportunity to plot further evil or scheme a way to escape justice [אלשיך].

When the collapse finally happens, it is entirely beyond repair. There are several layers to this complete lack of recovery. On a practical level, the constant pain of the disaster will break the individual, permanently preventing them from planning new schemes against others [אלשיך]. On a spiritual level, this person will not choose to repent, meaning there can be no true healing [מלבי״ם], and they will completely lose their place in the World to Come [אלשיך]. Ultimately, the path and beliefs of such a wicked person are so fundamentally corrupt that the situation is simply beyond fixing, like a twisted thing that can never be made straight [אמרי דעת].
