כִּ֡י לֹא֩ אֶל־עַ֨ם עִמְקֵ֥י שָׂפָ֛ה וְכִבְדֵ֥י לָשׁ֖וֹן אַתָּ֣ה שָׁל֑וּחַ אֶל־בֵּ֖ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

A prophet sent to deliver a divine message often faces many challenges, but in this specific mission, a language barrier is not one of them. God clarifies that the prophet is being sent directly to his own people, the house of Israel. Because they share the same native language, they will understand each other perfectly. He is not being dispatched to a foreign nation whose speech is complex, unfamiliar, or difficult to grasp [רש״י, מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון]. Instead, he will communicate in the everyday tongue of the people [מצודת ציון].

The nature of this clear communication is highlighted through a dual description of difficult speech. There are different ways to understand this repetition. One perspective views it as a simple stylistic choice, repeating the same idea with different words for added emphasis [רד״ק]. Another approach finds a specific distinction between the two descriptions: one refers to the physical difficulty of pronouncing unfamiliar words, while the other points to the intellectual challenge of understanding a foreign language's grammar [מלבי״ם].

Since the Israelites have a complete grasp of the holy language [מלבי״ם], the prophet does not need to adjust his speaking style or tailor his message for a foreign audience. He must deliver the prophecy using the exact words and in the precise order that God spoke to him [מצודת דוד]. Ultimately, whatever challenges he will face in delivering the message to the people, they will not stem from a lack of linguistic understanding [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
