Faced with a clear contrast between a servant's loyalty and a master's betrayal, King David makes a major decision. He strips Mephibosheth of his wealth and transfers all of his property directly to his servant, Ziba.
However, the immediate reality of this royal decree is complicated. At this moment, David is a king in exile, lacking authority and holding almost no practical power. Because of his situation, his command cannot be enforced right away. Instead, it functions as a firm promise—a guarantee that Ziba will receive the property if and when the king regains his throne.
In response to this future promise, Ziba accepts the gesture with profound gratitude. He bows before the exiled king, expressing his deep thanks and his desire to remain in David's good graces.
