I Chronicles 29:24Sefaria

The transition of power to a new king often brings tension and division, but the transfer of leadership to Solomon is marked by overwhelming and absolute support. The nation united around him, and even those who could have laid claim to the throne accepted his authority in complete silence [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This sweeping support came from two main groups. First, the military leadership, including senior officials and army commanders, rallied behind the new king [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Their unified backing stands in sharp contrast to the earlier rebellion of Adonijah, who failed to recruit David's mighty warriors to his cause [רש״י]. Second, the entire royal family united behind Solomon. The support of King David's other sons highlights the depth of this consensus, especially since these exact sons had previously attended Adonijah's feast when he attempted to seize the crown [מלבי״ם]. While they never formally pledged their loyalty to Adonijah [רש״י], they now fully accepted the new reality and submitted to Solomon.

The physical gesture of offering a hand serves as a powerful symbol of surrender, loyalty, and the acceptance of a new ruler. The primary approach among commentators is that this action represents the forging of a covenant [ביאור שטיינזלץ] and complete submission to the king's authority [מלבי״ם]. By shaking hands, the military leaders and the royal sons showed their faithfulness, committing themselves to serve Solomon wholeheartedly and to remain firmly under his governance [רש״י, מצודת דוד].
