Delivering a sensitive message to a monarch requires careful planning, especially when the physical document containing the message is at risk. As the officials prepare to report the prophetic warnings to the king, their immediate concern is the safety of the scroll itself.

They proceed directly to the royal courtyard [מצודת דוד, רד״ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ] to secure the document before facing the ruler. Rather than bringing the scroll with them or casually leaving it behind, they take deliberate precautions. They enter the chamber of Elishama the scribe and hand the scroll over as a formal deposit, ensuring it is safely hidden and carefully guarded [מצודת ציון].

Only after the physical safety of the document is completely guaranteed do the officials continue their mission. With the scroll securely tucked away in a safe location, they finally approach the king to verbally relay everything they have heard.
