The ultimate fate of a wicked oppressor is marked by cruelty toward the weak and the sudden loss of his gains at the moment of truth. A person may use his power to harm the defenseless, but he is ultimately taken from the world before he can enjoy his loot.

The initial act of the wicked is one of utter devastation, completely shattering and breaking the destitute [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Commentators offer varying perspectives on how this cruelty unfolds. One approach suggests a relentless pursuit, where the oppressor does not let go of the poor until they are entirely crushed [מצודת דוד, רלב״ג], leaving them completely broken and oppressed [רמב״ן]. Conversely, another perspective views the end of this cycle as the oppressor's own departure from the world. After devastating the poor, he suddenly dies, leaving his victims behind with the opportunity to finally reclaim what was stolen from them [רש״י, אבן עזרא].

Beyond physical violence, this oppression can also be understood through a spiritual and moral lens. The harm inflicted is not necessarily an active robbery, but rather the quiet cruelty of ignoring someone in need. Because God entrusts the livelihood of the poor as a deposit within the wealth of the rich, a person who withholds charity is viewed as having actively crushed the destitute [אלשיך].

The climax of this exploitation is the seizure of a home that the wicked neither worked for nor built [מצודת דוד]. Yet, the punishment ensures he will never enjoy the fruits of his crime, as his life will be cut short before he can establish the property [רמב״ן]. In a very physical sense, the oppressor might tear down the stolen house with plans to rebuild it to his liking, but sudden death overtakes him, ensuring the construction is never finished [מלבי״ם]. Following the moral perspective, just as withholding charity is equated to stealing the home of the poor, the stingy wealthy man will suffer the ruin of his own home, never having the chance to rebuild it for himself [אלשיך].
