Following the severe punishment of Achan, physical and geographical markers were established to ensure the event would never be forgotten. The Israelites raised a heap of stones, forming a high mound [מצודת ציון] directly over Achan's grave or the exact location of his execution [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This structure was intended to stand in its full size permanently, serving as an everlasting memorial for future generations [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

With justice fully carried out, God's fierce anger finally subsided, and He was calmed [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. To further cement the memory of what occurred, the area was permanently named the Valley of Achor [מצודת דוד]. This lasting title was inspired by Joshua's earlier words, utilizing a deliberate play on words that echoes both Achan's name and the concept of bringing trouble [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
