The downfall of corrupt and tyrannical individuals often happens with shocking speed and absolute finality, standing in sharp contrast to the unshakable stability they once projected. After only a brief passage of time, the wicked person suddenly vanishes from the world, and all his accumulated wealth is rapidly lost [אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד, שטיינזלץ]. An individual who previously appeared firmly rooted in his place simply passes from sight and is gone [שטיינזלץ].

This disappearance is a profound and total erasure rather than a standard physical death. The destruction is so complete that even the physical space the person once occupied is wiped clean. He leaves behind no children and no legacy, making it seem as though he never existed at all [רד״ק, אלשיך].

Furthermore, this physical vanishing is matched by an eternal spiritual disappearance. Normally, when someone passes away from this world, their presence continues in the afterlife. However, any attempt to find the wicked person in the next world will fail, as his soul is entirely lost and cannot be found even in the realm of souls [מלבי״ם]. Alternatively, the search for what is missing can be understood not as a search for the person himself, but as an attempt to uncover the exact reason behind such a sudden and absolute punishment. Yet, this underlying cause remains entirely hidden and cannot be found [אלשיך].
