The preparation for building the Temple involved a massive outpouring of generosity from the nation. The people stepped forward with an enormous contribution, adding to the three thousand talents of gold the king had already provided. This vast collection of wealth was designated for two primary purposes. One portion was actively used to fund the construction work and to craft the sacred vessels, while the remaining funds were securely stored in the treasury [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

As part of this effort, the people gave ten thousand standard gold coins, widely recognized at the time as a common currency or unit of weight, similar to gold dinars [רלב״ג, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Although ten thousand coins is a large quantity, their combined weight was actually relatively light, not even equaling the mass of a single talent [מצודת דוד].

The nation's generosity extended far beyond gold. They provided immense quantities of other essential metals, bringing in ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of copper, and one hundred thousand talents of iron to ensure the completion of the sacred structure.
