I Kings 10:23Sefaria

King Solomon reached an unmatched peak of global influence, standing far above any other leader of his time. His unprecedented status was the clear result of all the events that had unfolded during his reign. He was elevated above the rest of the world by two defining qualities: his immense wealth and his profound wisdom [אברבנאל]. These two traits were deeply connected. His extraordinary intelligence did not simply exist on its own; rather, it served as the direct cause that generated his great material fortune [מלבי״ם].

Even though his intellect was the root of his success, his material riches often take center stage in the story of his greatness. There are a few ways to understand why his financial power is emphasized first. One perspective is that when comparing Solomon to other rulers of the world, wealth naturally takes the lead, as kings generally view financial prosperity as the ultimate and most important measure of greatness. Another approach suggests that prioritizing his riches serves to highlight the profound kindness of God. Originally, Solomon never asked God for material abundance, requesting only an understanding mind. Yet, God chose to shower him with immense wealth as a generous addition to his initial request [חומת אנך].
