אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֲנִ֨י ׀ אֶחֱזֶה־לִּ֗י וְעֵינַ֣י רָא֣וּ וְלֹא־זָ֑ר כָּל֖וּ כִלְיֹתַ֣י בְּחֵקִֽי׃

Job's immense suffering plunges him into a profound, isolating loneliness, creating an unbridgeable gap between his own internal agony and the outside perspective of his friends. The primary approach among commentators is that bystanders are entirely unable to comprehend the sheer intensity of this inner pain. While physical wounds might be visible to anyone, the internal sickness is something only the sufferer can truly experience. No outsider can grasp the reality of this torment [מצודת דוד, רמב״ן]. Because of this disconnect, Job's companions are blind to what God is revealing to him through his own flesh, making all their attempts to explain his situation fundamentally flawed [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This internal agony reaches a point where the inner organs themselves waste away and are destroyed by the sheer force of the pain [ביאור שטיינזלץ, רמב״ן]. Some interpret this physical ruin quite literally, suggesting that his internal organs melted and spilled out of his body. The fact that a person could continue to live in such a state is an open miracle, serving as undeniable proof to the sufferer that God's hand is directly at work [רמב״ן].

Remarkably, this extreme physical destruction becomes the very source of a unique prophetic vision. Normally, divine revelation rests upon a person in a state of joy, raising the question of how such a deeply tormented individual could experience it instead of his healthy companions. The answer lies in the severity of his condition. Because his physical form is so utterly broken and his survival is merely miraculous, he exists in a state akin to death. Just as a soul gains profound spiritual awareness after leaving the body because it is no longer held back by physical limitations, the destruction of his flesh removes the material barriers that normally cloud human perception. This allows him to achieve a divine vision that his healthy friends cannot possibly reach [אלשיך]. Through the ruins of his own painful body, he ultimately merits seeing God, fueled by a deep anticipation for rescue and redemption [רמב״ן, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
