תהלים, פרק ל״ז, פסוק י״ט

A divine promise of security and stability accompanies the righteous even when the world around them is plunged into crisis. Severe hardships often take the form of collective disasters, such as plagues, wars, or attacks by wild animals [רד״ק, אבן עזרא]. During these dark periods, while the wicked struggle to find shelter or food, the pure are shielded and saved from premature death [אבן עזרא, מלבי״ם]. The surrounding destruction simply will not touch them [מצודת דוד].

This unique protection stems directly from the way the righteous live. By dedicating their daily actions to a higher purpose, they transform time itself into a holy inheritance. Because of this, the harsh decrees of difficult eras or periods of starvation hold no power to control them or override the blessing that rests upon their lives [אלשיך]. In times of widespread hunger, God ensures that all their needs are met [מצודת דוד]. Yet, this satisfaction does not necessarily arrive as massive material wealth. Sometimes, the true blessing is that even the small amount they possess will be entirely sufficient, completely satisfying their needs [מאירי].

Despite this profound promise of divine oversight, there is no room for passivity. A person cannot sit idle, neglect basic responsibilities like planting a field, and expect God to provide a miraculous harvest. Divine care and sustenance are guaranteed only to those who put in the necessary human effort, ensuring support even if an external disaster, such as a swarm of locusts, ultimately destroys their crops [תורה תמימה].
