She responds to Eli by expressing hope that she will find favor in his eyes. The primary approach among commentators is that she is voicing her hope that his blessing will be fulfilled, while also thanking him for seeking mercy on her behalf. Yet, her focus on the future carries a deeper meaning. According to [אברבנאל], she is telling Eli that even though he mistakenly suspected her of being drunk, a time will come when her prayer is answered. When she returns with a child, she will truly find favor in his eyes, and he will recognize her as a woman who deeply respects God. Adding to this future outlook, [אלשיך] explains that she is securing Eli's kindness for the days ahead, ensuring that when she eventually brings the boy to the Tabernacle, Eli will help guide him in the service of God.
