Isaiah 3:18Sefaria

A day of reckoning is coming when the habit of showing off flashy, external beauty will come to an end. Magnificent jewelry and symbols of pride will be taken away, and the reliance on material vanity will be replaced by deep humility. During this time, God acts with absolute lordship and rule over the world [מנחת שי]. The central event is the stripping away of these decorations, ensuring that the women will no longer adorn themselves in luxury or base their self-worth on such items

There are different views regarding when this day of judgment takes place. Some suggest it refers to the historical period of Kings Ahaz and Hezekiah, a time when sinners faced punishment while the remaining people experienced honor and goodness. Alternatively, this may be a vision of the distant future during the gathering of the exiles. In that era, God will cleanse the nation of those who rebel against Him, leaving behind only a holy and modest group [רד״ק, רש״י].

The removal of these prideful accessories begins with items worn on the feet and legs, directly addressing the habit of walking noisily to draw attention [שד״ל]. There is some debate about the exact nature of these items. They may have been special shoes designed to make a clicking sound with each step [רש״י, מצודת ציון], or perhaps a noisy ornament attached directly to the footwear [רד״ק]. Others suggest they were rings or bracelets worn on the calves, sometimes connected by chains

The next type of decoration is subject to various interpretations. The primary approach among commentators is that these were delicate nets or mesh caps used to style and decorate the hair However, other perspectives suggest they might have been patterned garments [רד״ק], additional jewelry for the legs [אבן עזרא], or small sun-shaped pendants worn alongside other pieces [שד״ל].

Finally, the judgment addresses a third category of ornaments. Most commentators agree that these were pieces of jewelry, such as earrings or belt buckles, crafted in the shape of a half-moon Yet, an alternative view maintains that, much like the previous headpieces, these too were a specific style of hairnet [רש״י, רד״ק].
