Job 38:40Sefaria

God's care for the wild creatures of the earth goes far beyond simply placing food before them. He equips predators with the precise wisdom and natural instincts they need to hunt effectively. When lions prepare to catch their food, they lower their bodies, crouching down and pressing closely together They do this within their dens as a calculated tactic, staying hidden in their habitats so passing animals will not spot them and flee To further their chances, they settle into thickets of trees, using the dense branches as a hiding place where they can wait in ambush to strike

There are different perspectives on the deeper meaning behind these hunting methods. This behavior can be seen as a clear display of the natural intelligence God instilled in wild animals, allowing them to secure their own meals [מצודת דוד]. Conversely, the very necessity of an ambush reveals the animals' complete dependence on God's ongoing care. Over time, prey animals learn to avoid the permanent dens of the lions. Forced to adapt, the predators must leave their usual homes and hide in temporary thickets to catch passing animals by surprise. Yet, even this strategy has a short lifespan, as the prey will eventually learn to recognize the danger of the thickets as well. Ultimately, without God's constant and active provision of food day after day and season after season, these predators could never survive on their own cleverness alone [אלשיך].
