The spiritual legacy of King Jehu concludes on a critical note, highlighting a deep lack of perfection in his actions. Rather than following God's teachings completely, he chose to maintain the idolatrous worship of the golden calves, a practice originally established by Jeroboam. By failing to abandon these past sins, his obedience remained incomplete.

This spiritual failure brought about severe historical and national consequences [אברבנאל]. First, Jehu lost the opportunity to extend his royal dynasty beyond the timeframe he was initially promised. Second, God responded to this ongoing idolatry by gradually shrinking the borders of Israel. He brought devastation upon the land through the military invasions of Hazael, the king of Aram.

These invasions were the completion of a broader divine plan built on the principle of measure for measure. Just as Jehu himself acted as an instrument in God's hands to bring justice upon the house of Ahab, Hazael now functioned as a divine tool to punish the entire nation of Israel. This unfolding reality fulfilled the exact prophecy God had previously revealed to the prophet Elijah.
