I Chronicles 1:23Sefaria

וְאֶת־אוֹפִ֥יר וְאֶת־חֲוִילָ֖ה וְאֶת־יוֹבָ֑ב כׇּל־אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י יׇקְטָֽן׃ {ס}

The historical records of early humanity map out the spread of families into vast nations, detailing where various descendants eventually settled across the ancient world. Within this broader history, Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab represent distinct nations that likely established their territories in Africa or along the shores of the Indian Ocean [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Genealogically, these men were the direct, biological children of Joktan. This biological reality stands in contrast to other ancient family trees, such as the lineage of Egypt, which often list entire nations that emerged from much later generations rather than immediate offspring [מלבי״ם].

The father of this family line, Joktan, bears a name with deep personal significance. It was given to him by his father, Eber, who was a great prophet. The name itself reflects Joktan's character as a deeply humble man who deliberately kept his worldly affairs modest and unassuming. In contrast, the names of his children do not carry such profound meanings. Because they were given as standard names rather than through prophetic insight, they do not invite the same level of deeper analysis [רש״י].
