Job 15:17Sefaria

Eliphaz attempts to reestablish his authority and the credibility of his arguments after his previous words were dismissed. He wants to make it clear that his insights are not empty claims, but deep truths that stand firmly before God and humanity

He urges his friend to listen closely as he prepares to share his knowledge. The primary approach among commentators is that Eliphaz is stepping forward to declare and recount his understanding. Some specify that the manner of his speech implies he is about to reveal deep mysteries and hidden truths [מלבי״ם]. In asking for this attention, he is calling for careful reflection. He is not necessarily forcing his friend to agree with him immediately, but rather asking him to simply lend an ear and truly listen to what is being shared [אלשיך].

When explaining the source of his knowledge, Eliphaz claims to be sharing exactly what he has seen. Commentators differ on the exact nature of this sight. One approach understands it as physical, sensory observation. In this view, Eliphaz is testifying to things he has witnessed with his own eyes throughout his life experience. By emphasizing that his knowledge comes from direct observation rather than mere rumors, he gives his arguments significant weight and validity Conversely, another perspective suggests that this sight is entirely spiritual and internal. Rather than physical observation, it refers to a vision of the heart and mind, or even an actual prophetic revelation. According to this interpretation, Eliphaz is sharing a divine vision he received, expecting belief and attention because of its higher spiritual source
