Psalms 104:27Sefaria

Every living creature shares a fundamental need for daily survival, bound by a profound reliance on the Creator. After mapping out the various habitats of the animal kingdom, the focus shifts to how these creatures are sustained. A sweeping picture emerges of an ongoing existence that rests entirely on God's careful watch, where earthly beings depend completely on His kindness for their daily survival [מלבי״ם, רד״ק]. This encompasses absolutely all living beings, whether they are beasts roaming the land or creatures swimming in the sea This reality, in which animals receive their food readily prepared from God's hand, stands in sharp contrast to human beings, who must go out and labor to secure their livelihood [אלשיך].

As these animals seek their sustenance, their actions embody a deep sense of hope, expectation, and turning toward God However, one might wonder how creatures lacking human intellect can possess a conscious hope. The explanation is that this is not an intellectual recognition of the One who provides for them. Rather, it is an expression of the very nature instilled within them. Their inherent lack, their physical need for food, and their instinctual search for survival are themselves viewed as an expectation of God. Even though the animals are unaware of it, we as humans can observe their natural instincts and understand that their search is, in truth, a silent hope directed upward

Furthermore, this divine provision is not distributed in a broad or random manner. It is marked by precise, individual care. God looks after every single creature and every distinct species, providing exactly what is needed at the specific time that is right for it While this entire process of feeding the world unfolds through a chain of natural causes, the ultimate control never leaves God's hands. He constantly decides whether to grant this abundance to His creatures or to hold it back [רד״ק].
