I Kings 10:6Sefaria

The Queen of Sheba’s journey to Jerusalem reaches its peak in a moment of honest realization. After observing the king firsthand, she openly admits that the distant rumors of his greatness were not exaggerated, but an accurate reflection of reality. In her declaration, she carefully separates her observations into two distinct areas, pointing to the rare balance of his abilities.

Commentators explore this division by looking at the common gap between the world of thought and the world of action [מלבי״ם, חומת אנך]. Usually, people who are deeply focused on abstract wisdom struggle to lead effectively in practical, political, and material matters. Solomon, however, showed complete perfection in both. His practical affairs, including the flawless and orderly management of his household and government, were matched by his deep understanding of nature and spiritual teachings. The visiting queen was amazed to discover that even his most ordinary material concerns were guided by supreme wisdom.

Another perspective understands this division as the difference between inner intellect and outward expression [חומת אנך]. Often, highly intelligent individuals find it difficult to put their wisdom into words, while fluent speakers may lack real depth. Solomon was gifted with a rare perfection where his mind and his speech were completely aligned. His clear and articulate language perfectly mirrored his deep inner understanding. Recognizing this double perfection, where theory met practice and deep thought matched clear expression, the queen fully confirms that everything she had heard in her own country was the absolute truth [אברבנאל].
