Job 34:34Sefaria

Elihu expresses complete confidence in the rightness of his arguments, declaring that anyone with true understanding will naturally listen and agree with his perspective. He addresses individuals of deep intellect, who are generally understood to be wise people with a clear grasp of the truth [שטיינזלץ]. Some draw a careful distinction between different types of listeners. There are those whose wisdom is so deeply rooted within them that they arrive at the truth independently, while others are considered wise because they recognize and accept the truth once it is spoken to them [מלבי״ם]. The appeal may be directed broadly at any educated person willing to evaluate the claims [תקות אנוש].

The primary approach among commentators is that these thoughtful listeners will pay close attention, agree with the responses provided, and recognize the profound wisdom behind them. By applying careful judgment, they will understand that God never perverts justice Consequently, they will conclude that the earlier complaints against God were spoken without proper knowledge

A unique perspective identifies the listeners not as a general audience, but as the specific people present. In this view, the appeal is directed at the three friends, who are described as people with divided hearts, meaning they are doubtful individuals wavering between their good and bad inclinations. The wise listener, however, is identified as Job himself Elihu uses Job's current silence as the ultimate proof of his own success in the debate. Unlike his endless arguments with the three friends, Job now listens quietly and offers no reply. He is considered truly strong and wise because he successfully overcame his own urge to argue, setting aside his personal views in the face of greater wisdom. Because even the wise Job accepts the truth in silence, Elihu confidently invites the doubtful friends to bring forward any remaining questions they might have [אלשיך].
