As dawn breaks, the tragic aftermath of the night's horrors comes to light. The man opens the door of the house to continue his journey, only to discover his concubine lying completely motionless. She is found sprawled on the ground, having collapsed into this final resting position [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

It appears that she used the very last of her strength to reach the entrance, desperately trying to get back inside the house. However, her strength failed her, and she collapsed exactly where she stood [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. She lies at the entrance, specifically on the threshold—the step leading into the home, an area that can also encompass the doorposts [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. It is right upon this threshold that her hands remained resting [מצודת דוד].
