Ezekiel 36:22Sefaria

The promise of future redemption for the Israelites comes with a sharp clarification regarding its true motive. This salvation does not stem from the merits of the people, but rather from the supreme need to restore God's honor in the world. The act of salvation involves the physical gathering of the Israelites, removing them from the lands of exile and returning them to their homeland This is done specifically for the sake of God's name, which was profaned by the people's actions and by their lowly condition among the nations [מצודת דוד].

While the idea that redemption is not for the people's sake might seem severe, it actually provides a deep sense of hope and security regarding the permanence of their return. If the redemption depended entirely on the people's good deeds, the Israelites could easily fall into despair. They might fear that their negative desires would cause them to fail once more, leading the land to reject their sins and resulting in yet another exile [צאינה וראינה].

Furthermore, if the return was conditional on their behavior, God would be obligated to punish and exile them again for any future wrongdoing. Because the redemption is driven solely by the need to protect God's name, it is guaranteed to be complete and final. To ensure His name is never profaned again, God will take an active role in purifying the people so they will no longer sin, thereby securing their permanent restoration
