יחזקאל, פרק ל״ו, פסוק ל׳

Ezekiel 36:30Sefaria

The promise of agricultural abundance extends far beyond mere physical survival. It serves to restore a nation's lost dignity and display Divine providence to the entire world. God promises to vastly increase the yield of the fields and the fruit of the trees [מצודת ציון]. This great blessing ensures that the people of Israel will never again have to carry the heavy burden and suffering [ביאור שטיינזלץ] of enduring famine in front of the surrounding nations. The disgrace associated with starvation operates on several different levels.

From a historical and geographic standpoint, the Land of Israel relies on rainfall much more heavily than other regions, making it naturally more vulnerable to frequent famines. Historically, this harsh reality forced its inhabitants to abandon their homeland and migrate to foreign countries just to survive, a wandering that carries its own deep sense of shame [רד״ק]. Socially and economically, a starving nation becomes an easy target for mockery. Other nations label them as a people without bread [מצודת דוד], reducing them to a humiliating state where they are forced to beg for charity and rely on the goodwill of strangers [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Beyond the physical and social struggles, the deepest layer of this disgrace is theological. Rainfall is a direct reflection of God's will and His active care for the world. While other nations mistakenly believe they can control nature and gather wealth through magic, they remain completely powerless to make it rain. Therefore, when the people of Israel sin and their desperate prayers for rain go unanswered, it invites scorn and ridicule from the rest of the world. By promising a future of lasting agricultural abundance, God intends to permanently remove this spiritual shame. This natural wealth will stand as undeniable proof against non-believers, showing the world that God actively listens to the prayers of His people and willingly provides them with rain [אהבת יהונתן].
