II Samuel 22:33Sefaria

King David recognizes God as the exclusive source of his physical power, military triumphs, and moral integrity. Divine providence acts as a guiding force that removes hurdles and paves a safe, flawless journey through life. God acts as a wondrous fortress, offering refuge while filling David with immense strength This divine support is especially clear in the heat of battle, where God serves as an anchor for David as he stands among his troops Beyond physical might, this heavenly power is also given to the righteous to aid them in their internal, spiritual struggles against their negative impulses [אהבת יהונתן].

When it comes to how God clears the way for this success, commentators offer two main perspectives. One approach suggests that God enables David to leap over obstacles Through this divine lift, success and goodness are rushed to him with great speed, which proved vital when he was escaping pursuers like Saul and Absalom [רלב״ג]. Another perspective views God's action as a process of opening and untangling. In this view, God actively clears and paves the battlefield for him

The result of these divine interventions is a completely perfect path, free from sin, danger, and stumbling blocks In a military context, this perfection was so profound that David did not lose a single soldier in his battles [רד״ק].

However, a more complex moral dynamic is also at play. God actually interacted with David in two opposite ways depending on the enemy. While God granted him overwhelming strength against foreign nations, He intentionally weakened David's hands when facing domestic rivals like Saul. This deliberate weakening was designed to ensure David remained morally pure, forcing him to hold back and avoid the sin of harming the anointed king of Israel [אלשיך].

Ultimately, David's personal journey became entirely merged with the divine will. A deep blending occurs between his own path and God's path, reflecting the reality that David went into battle solely in the name of God, uniting his actions completely with His purpose
