Following the escape from Egypt, the focus shifts to the rescue from various oppressors. These enemies caused deep distress and applied intense pressure on the nation [מצודת ציון]. They were the kings of Canaan who cornered the Israelites and waged war against them [מצודת דוד]. Specifically, these enemies included rulers like Sihon and Og, who denied the Israelites safe passage and launched military attacks, as well as the Canaanite king of Arad and other local powers who sought to harm the people [רד"ק, אברבנאל]. The final act of driving out the enemy refers directly to these Canaanite kings and oppressors, rather than the Egyptians. It was God Himself who expelled these nations, secured victory in battle against them, and ultimately handed their territory over to the Israelites [רד"ק, אברבנאל].
