In the heart of a raging sea, a terrifying moment arrives when both physical stability and professional expertise completely collapse, exposing the absolute helplessness of the sailors. Caught in the violent grip of the storm, the ship pitches and rolls with such force that the crew can no longer stand or even sit. They are thrown about uncontrollably, staggering and swaying like drunkards unable to steady themselves [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד].

The primary approach among commentators is that this violent motion resembles a fierce, side-to-side dance [מצודת ציון, רד״ק, מאירי].
