The gift she gathers is exceptionally large and varied, specifically designed to satisfy the hunger of an entire army. She packs two leather pouches filled with wine and prepares five sheep. The primary approach among commentators is that these sheep are already cooked, either boiled or roasted, so they can be eaten immediately. However, some explain that this is a special dish consisting of meat stuffed with finely chopped meat and eggs [רש״י, רד״ק]. Alongside this practical explanation, a midrashic interpretation suggests that these sheep represent the fulfillment of a duty. They symbolize a flock that compels its owner to perform the commandment of donating the first shearing of the fleece, an obligation that requires a whole flock rather than a single animal [מנחת שי].

To complete the feast, Abigail includes five measures of roasted grain, which consists of either toasted kernels or flour ground from roasted stalks [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
