וְלָקַחְתָּ֤ אֹתָם֙ מִיָּדָ֔ם וְהִקְטַרְתָּ֥ הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חָה עַל־הָעֹלָ֑ה לְרֵ֤יחַ נִיח֙וֹחַ֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה אִשֶּׁ֥ה ה֖וּא לַיהֹוָֽה׃

The final stage of dedicating the priests involves a direct transfer of the offering from their hands to the altar. This physical act of handing over the parts of the ram and the unleavened bread marks the completion of their dedication [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The action mirrors a royal court setting, comparing the priest to a servant who receives a gift from someone seeking to present it before the king [חזקוני]. While the exact description of how the offering is held varies slightly in other Torah passages, the practical action remains entirely the same [אבן עזרא].

Once taken, the offering is burned on the altar following a specific sequence. It is offered in relation to the first ram, which has already been sacrificed [רש״י]. The primary approach among commentators is that the new offering is not physically stacked on top of the first ram, as the initial animal has already been completely consumed by the flames. Instead, this indicates a strict chronological order, showing that the current offering is brought immediately after the first one and serves as an addition to it.

As the offering is consumed, it produces a pleasing odor. This fragrance symbolizes the spiritual satisfaction that God's command has been faithfully fulfilled and His will accomplished [רש״י]. The sacrifice is defined by its direct relationship to fire [אבן עזרא], functioning essentially as a gift that is given entirely to the flames [רש״י, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Ultimately, the entire process is performed to demonstrate that the sacrifice is dedicated exclusively to the name of God [רש״י].
