Solomon announces the fulfillment of a divine promise, marking the clear transition from his father's era to his own established rule and the successful completion of the Temple. This declaration acts as a prelude to his great prayer. It emphasizes that the construction of the Temple was carried out strictly by God's command and had been carefully planned and organized since the days of David [אברבנאל]. By allowing Solomon to inherit the kingship, God actively kept His word [ביאור שטיינזלץ, אברבנאל].

Taking the throne involved much more than a simple transfer of power. It represented a time of deep peace, characterized by complete rest from surrounding enemies. This profound sense of security allowed Solomon to move forward and build the Temple with completely pure intentions, acting solely for the sake of God [מלבי״ם]. Ultimately, the primary purpose of this entire building project was to prepare a permanent home for the Ark of the Covenant [אברבנאל].

Following this introduction, Solomon prepares to offer his prayer. He steps into the courtyard of the priests, an area carrying greater sanctity than the general Israelite courtyard, and positions himself before the copper altar so that his prayer will be heard. Standing upon a special copper platform prepared in advance for this moment, he drops to his knees and spreads his hands toward the heavens, a physical expression of his plea for divine kindness [אברבנאל].
