As the enemies revel in their power, the exiled nation is forced to endure relentless mockery. Instead of playing ordinary tunes, the oppressors compose cruel melodies of scorn, laughing endlessly at the broken people. In this tragic sense, the captive nation is literally the enemy's song, as their daily prayers unknowingly supply the oppressors with their enduring strength [אלון בכות].
