Following a sudden shift on the battlefield, the Israelite camp springs into decisive action against their retreating enemy. The men of Israel, who make up the majority of the camp, are the first to rise up and give chase, quickly followed by the men of Judah [חומת אנך].

As they charge forward, the troops let out a massive shout. There are different perspectives on the exact nature of this great noise. It can be understood as a fierce battle cry [ביאור שטיינזלץ], or alternatively, as a loud cheer of joy and triumph [מצודת דוד]. Beneath this powerful sound is a deep realization among the soldiers that God is fighting on their behalf [חומת אנך].

The Israelites relentlessly chase the fleeing Philistines toward a valley. The narrative describes this path using a personal tone, as if speaking directly to someone who is highly familiar with the local landscape [מצודת ציון]. The pursuit continues all the way to the gates of Ekron, a heavily fortified Philistine city [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Along this desperate retreat, the Philistines suffer heavy losses. These casualties are the direct result of the Israelites actively striking down their enemies [חומת אנך], leaving bodies scattered across the entire length of the escape route [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
