Exodus 12:50Sefaria

וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּ כׇּל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֥ה וְאֶֽת־אַהֲרֹ֖ן כֵּ֥ן עָשֽׂוּ׃ {ס}

The conclusion of the Passover instructions highlights the absolute obedience of the Israelites. Earlier in the narrative, the people demonstrated their dedication by slaughtering the sacrifice and placing blood on the doorposts. The renewed focus on their compliance shifts attention to the specific rules for eating the meal that very night [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. These rules involve the prohibition against feeding foreigners, the requirement to eat inside a single house, and the ban on breaking any bones [שד״ל]. The immediate relevance of these instructions became clear right after the Exodus, as a large group of foreigners joined the Israelites, making the laws regarding who could partake highly practical [רש״ר הירש].

Because certain instructions apply only to future generations or upon entering the land of Israel, the people's compliance is also understood as an acceptance of a long-term commitment to uphold these laws forever [חזקוני, ברכת אשר על התורה]. A different approach removes the events from the immediate context of Egypt altogether. Instead, it suggests a connection to the Passover celebrated later in the Sinai desert, where converts underwent circumcision, operating on the principle that the narrative does not always follow a strict chronological order [אבן עזרא]. However, other scholars reject this idea, maintaining that there is no valid reason to separate the events from their natural setting in Egypt [שד״ל].

Another perspective emphasizes the commandment of circumcision, viewing it as the primary action being carried out [העמק דבר]. This fulfillment extended to Moses and Aaron as well. Even though the two leaders had not been subjected to Egyptian slavery and seemingly did not need the redemption provided by the Passover sacrifice, they still observed the commandment alongside the rest of the nation [ריב״א]. Their dedication was hands-on, as they actively circumcised the Israelites, with Moses performing the initial cut and Aaron completing the procedure [העמק דבר]. Finally, from a stylistic standpoint, this summary of the people's obedience can simply be understood as a standard formula used to formally close a section of divine commands [קאסוטו].
