Following a conflict over the royal succession, David takes action to secure and strengthen Solomon's future reign. To manage this transition of power, he summons three central figures: Zadok, who serves as the High Priest; Nathan the Prophet; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, who leads the highest court of law.

By gathering the primary representatives of the priesthood, prophecy, and the justice system, David ensures that the anointing of the new king will be conducted properly. This deliberate assembly is designed to firmly establish the legitimacy of Solomon's rule [מלבי״ם]. Responding to the royal summons, all three leaders arrive and stand united before the king [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
