Ezekiel 16:19Sefaria

The deepest form of ingratitude occurs when a gift is used to rebel against the giver. God provides His people with abundance and nourishment, yet they take those exact blessings and offer them to idols. He provides a rich variety of food, specifically fine flour, oil, and honey [רד״ק]. God gives this nourishment with the clear intention of feeding and sustaining the people Instead of using it as intended, the people take this abundance and present it as sacrifices to false gods, hoping to create a pleasing aroma to satisfy them

The reality of this betrayal is confirmed in several ways. The primary approach among commentators is that God stands as a witness to this sin, declaring it an undeniable fact. This twisted behavior is not an isolated incident but a regular occurrence However, this ongoing reality also highlights a chilling truth about the continuation of divine kindness in the face of betrayal. Despite the sin, God's provision does not stop. According to Midrashic tradition, this echoes the events surrounding the Golden Calf. On the very day the Israelites made the calf, manna fell from the sky, and they took that heavenly food and offered it to the idol. Even though God had every reason to withhold their sustenance after such a betrayal, the manna continued to fall the next day without interruption [רש״י, רד״ק].

In a broader historical sense, this continuous flow of blessings reflects the era of the early kings of Judah. Even as these kings engaged in idol worship, God did not immediately shatter their reality. He continued to shower them with His goodness. Material abundance and the daily service in the Temple continued to exist right alongside idol worship, without being cut off [מלבי״ם].
