This precise timing—her arrival occurring before his plea was even completed—serves as absolute proof that the entire sequence of events was orchestrated by God [ספורנו].

The servant emphasizes that his request was made inwardly, an important detail that carries multiple layers of meaning. First, it clarifies that his prayer was entirely silent. This removes any possibility that the young woman overheard his specific conditions and deliberately acted to fulfill them [אור החיים, אוהב גר]. Additionally, this inward speech indicates a profound internal alignment. As a loyal servant, he had completely set aside his own previous desire to marry his own daughter to his master's son. Instead, he prayed with complete sincerity and a willing soul for the success of his master's mission [הכתב והקבלה].

As he recounts the encounter, a chronological detail stands out: he refers to the young woman by name, even though he had not yet asked for her identity at that specific moment by the well. Commentators offer two main ways to understand this. One approach suggests that the servant is simply telling the story in retrospect, using the name he learned later while staying in their home. Another perspective argues that the servant actually knew her name in advance. His master had previously received news that his relative fathered a daughter named Rebekah.
