This outpouring of the heart can also take the form of confessing past mistakes [רש״י], or expressing a deep yearning to draw close to God despite the heavy distractions of everyday life [המאירי]. Others view this sharing through a more spiritual lens, seeing it as a reflection on past prayers where a person asked that their daily habits align perfectly with God's Commandments [המלבי״ם]. Taking a different approach, [האלשיך] suggests that this sharing refers to adopting God's own traits. By acting with kindness and mercy toward others, a person essentially makes God's ways their own.

Following this vulnerable outpouring, a response from God is felt. The primary approach among commentators is that this reflects a past reality where God genuinely answered these prayers, provided guidance, and offered rescue from various troubles. However, [המאירי] notes that this expression of being answered can also be understood as a hopeful plea for the future, asking that God will continue to respond and guide from this moment onward.

Once personal burdens are lifted and God's guidance is secured, a new, higher desire awakens. Having been saved from distress, the individual now asks to be granted the wisdom of the Torah [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This is not merely a request for basic study. Rather, it is a profound plea for an understanding heart capable of grasping the hidden secrets and deeper meanings behind the Commandments, a level of insight usually reserved for the truly wise [רד״ק, מלבי״ם]. Expanding on this progression, [האלשיך] points out a powerful logical conclusion: if acting with basic human kindness and mercy was enough to elicit God's response, then immersing oneself in the study of His divine laws—which are infinitely deep and beyond ordinary human comprehension—will surely purify a person's physical nature and elevate them to the highest spiritual heights.
