Psalms 119:94Sefaria

A profound relationship of belonging and loyalty forms the foundation for any plea for divine salvation. When a person expresses complete dedication to God, it is akin to a servant acknowledging a master Out of this deep bond, an individual looks exclusively to Him for rescue, trusting that just as a master is obligated to protect his servant, God will shield those devoted to Him This connection is absolute, relying entirely on God without the aid of any intermediary or angel [אלשיך].

The request for rescue is deeply tied to the active pursuit of God's commandments, which involves a sincere effort to search for, understand, and fulfill His will This pursuit is not merely a justification for why someone deserves to be saved. Rather, the very act of seeking out God's laws serves as the practical proof that the person truly belongs to Him [אבן עזרא].

Often, the persecution a person suffers at the hands of enemies is a direct result of this exact loyalty—guarding God's commandments and defending His honor. Therefore, the plea for rescue is a call for God to respond to this steadfast faithfulness. Furthermore, the active fulfillment of the commandments awakens a person to observe God's careful guidance of the world. Through this reflection, one comes to understand that He consistently saves the righteous from their pursuers, and it is upon this solid knowledge that the request for salvation is ultimately built [מלבי״ם].
