The primary approach among commentators is that God has bestowed many kindnesses upon His servant [מאירי]. This is not a fleeting moment of grace, but a constant, ongoing favor that has always accompanied him [מצודת דוד]. God has faithfully kept His promise to do good for those who walk the straight path [ביאור שטיינזלץ], ensuring that not a single pledge has gone unfulfilled [מצודת דוד]. This kindness is either brought about directly through the power of God's good word [אבן עזרא], or is simply a direct address to God, confirming that He has done exactly what He promised [רד״ק].

Beyond general gratitude, this goodness also refers to the gift of wisdom and spiritual understanding. This wisdom was not withheld, but was granted exactly as it was divinely decreed even before his creation [אלשיך]. Recognizing this past kindness serves as the perfect foundation for a future request. Having seen that God keeps His promises, there is now a plea for an even greater favor. The request is for the ability to learn and deeply understand the reasons behind the commandments, ensuring no unintentional mistakes are made along the way [מלבי״ם].

On a deeper, hidden level, this expression of gratitude takes on a profound spiritual reality. It is the Divine Presence itself speaking, describing how the souls of the righteous actively awaken God's endless abundance, creating unity and connection in the higher spiritual realms [חומת אנך].
